Ceremonies and rituals in dreams represent an archetypal confirmation or ritual acknowledgment of the content represented by the ritual.

Ritual symbolically emphasizes the fact of union, death or initiation to the individual, so it is perceived more strongly in the psyche than if two people simply unite or someone dies or someone else is born.

In other words, if someone dies, with a funeral in a symbolic way we say goodbye to the person, we acknowledge the death and we can start the mourning process. Similarly, baptism can symbolize the recognition of birth and the ritual celebration of new life, although in our environment it is religiously conotated. Marriage, in the traditional symbolic sense, also represents the confirmation and recognition of the common path of two people. Traditionally, a woman's last name changes (from her father's to her partner's) symbolically means separating from her father's energy and joining her partner's.
